Building your business from the ground up isn’t an easy thing to do. Just getting to the point where you’re open for business can be cumbersome at times. Where do you start? First thing you obviously are going to need is customers. If you’re a brick and mortar store, you’ll need to start getting customers coming into your store. If you’re in a good location, that might not be as hard, but you’re probably paying a premium for the location.
A good start to any business is to offer samples of your product. Many businesses may offer promotional gifts with the purchase of another product. Also, some companies may just give away products so that you can know how good the product is. This is easy to do with a brick and mortar store where people walk by your establishment. As more and more people try out your product and word of mouth spreads, hopefully your business will grow as well.
For an online store however, things can be a little bit more challenging. You don’t have storefront for people to see your store easily. You basically need to create your own traffic to your website. Therefore to start off, you need a great looking website. It will be a big mistake and a waste of time to try and build a website yourself, unless of course you’re a web designer for hire. You will want to have your website designed by a professional web designer. If you don’t get the attention of the customer right when they get to the website, chances are they will leave fairly quickly and not buy any products.
When selling online, you will need to target your advertising to what people are searching for. You will need to use some sort of pay per click advertising with Yahoo or Google. This can get expensive if you’re not sure of what you’re doing. Pay per click advertising is basically bidding for a certain search word. The higher the bid, the better position you get when the person searches for that particular phrase. Some phrases may cost several dollars per click so you will need to experiment with what works best for you. With online stores, word of mouth is just as important. Once people find you, hopefully the word of mouth aspect will catch on.
With any business, the key to success is your products. If you have great products, you’ll find some success. Finding the right balance of advertising, great products and luck are what it takes for a company to grow.
