It may not be quite time time to rejoice for small California LLCs and small California Corporations yet, but small business sales are up a whopping 20% this past July compared to July of 2009. Most big counties in California showed and increase in small businesses being sold, while the only big county that showed a decline, and it was slight, was San Diego County. While it may not be time to sit back and relax, it's good to see that many entrepreneurs are taking an interest in smaller businesses, and much of it is because of all the growth potential small businesses have. When you own a small business you have more opportunity to increase your profit margin, because it is so small you have a direct hand in everything that goes on, and that goes from small details such as choosing products or services to provide to bigger decisions such as selling the small business to someone else. A big misconception is that when a business is being sold it's being done so because they are not making any money, the truth is that there are many reasons to sell a small business, from hoping to retire or even to just free up some time. Running a small business is time consuming and some business owners, even though business is great, realize that running their own business is not for them. Regardless of the reasons to get into or get out of small business the news that small businesses sales are up is great, it shows an upturn in the economy that is much needed.

The Chamber of Commerce in Asheville, NC had a great idea when they said they were going to alternate their head position from someone who runs a big business to someone who runs a small business. Their newly elected leader, Alice Oglesby, is head of IO Illustration & Design which she runs full time and has just one employee, who only works part time. She thinks that she may be the person with the smallest company to hold a position in the Chamber of Commerce. Oglesby is replacing Michael Willet who was regional president of BB&T Corp, one of the nation's largest banks.
