On October 6th, the popular clothing store, Gap revealed it's new logo (left), not even two weeks later they announced that they were going back to their original logo. Why? There was an onslaught of critisism regarding their new branding direction. While you might not think a logo is that important for your business, it is, and Gap learned this the hard way. The comments on Twitter and Facebook had everyone taking swipes at the new logo. The company released the following:
"We've heard loud and clear you don't like the new logo," the company wrote. "We've learned a lot from the feedback. We only want what's best for the brand and our customers. So instead of crowd sourcing, we're bringing back the Blue Box tonight."
When starting your business, it's important to keep in mind that when choosing a logo it will be somethig that you can see your business being associated with for years to come. The Gap went back to their old logo because their consumers have come to know the logo and wern't impressed with the radical change. Although Gap may think it was a mistake to replace their classic logo in the first place, they have earned respect by showing that they're actually listening to their customers.

So many brick and mortar businesses go unnoticed, and though many factors can play into why that is, a big reason is the business not having a web presence. At the very least you should have a website that lists your location, phone number and business hours. Many small businesses are under the misconception that a website must contain a wealth of information and be extremely interactive, and that's not true. If you've got a good web designer, your website can be attractive and simple. What's great about web, is that it can be updated as soon as you need it to be. For example a restaurant might have weekly or monthly specials, and the best place to advertise that is their website, it's quicker and more cost efficient than printing out flyers. Even if you have a simple website less than five pages, it will pay off. In a time when no one uses a phone book anymore, search engines are the key, if your business doesn't have a site to find, the majority of consumers out there will never find your business. If you need help creating a website, our sister company provides websites for all types of businesses, big and small, if you're interested call us at 866-999-8200.
